Dilettante presents the latest capsule collection by Blake Harding, who, having received the North Metropolitan TAFE Dilettante award in 2019, was invited to create a collection for Dilettante in 2022. Following the success of the initial collaboration, we are delighted to introduce Blake's second collection 'SS1'.

Importance of wearability is always emphasised and a fundamental root in Blake Harding. Clothing with profound priorities to function for the everyday nomad and build a timeless wardrobe as seasons and years progress. With the intention to adapt to the wearer’s surroundings, Blake Harding is for those that carry a curiosity for clothing, appreciate craftsmanship and search for ease in the everyday.

SS1 took on a focus for stripe and texture. Linear influences would proliferate into the need for texture and depth, and the simplicity that can be created around considered, no fuss fabrications and their ability to simplify the way we wear and function in clothing.

From fluid indigo dyed denims to corded cottons and typewriter cloth, the fabrications form to the body and adapt as the wearer navigates new paths. Ease of movement influenced the necessity for generously cut shapes that would complement the depth and dynamic tactility of the fabrications.

Consisting of 11 separates, each garment design was meticulously considered individually, and as the collection developed would find harmony through styling, as well as reassuring that the item holds integrity individually, ready to adapt to future seasons.

Four fabrications were used throughout the collection - all cotton, breathable and bringing a new texture, handle and fluidity to form the body. A cotton yarn dyed denim, a textured corded cotton, a striped typewriter cloth, and a special pretreated typewriter cloth. A distinctive fabric that has been rubbed several times before dyeing in order to maintain a natural wrinkle and soft, washed-out handle. All woven in Japan and garments crafted by hand.
